This Sunday's Hash Run was with Yuri Gagarin
Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet Cosmonaut who in 1961 became
the first human to journey into outer space. This titanium monument
stands on Leninsky Prospekt.
As always, our official meeting place is at Tchaikovsky Concert
Hall by the Mayakovskaya Metro. It is now my task to escort
newcomers from here to wherever the start of the Hash Run is.
You just never know who or what might walk by....
Our destination this week was Leninsky Prospekt (Lenin Avenue)
Lenin Avenue is the second widest street in Moscow, after
Leningrad Avenue.

The Yuri Gagarin Monument is 40 meters tall and
was erected in Yuri Gagarin Square in 1980.
Gagarin became the first person in space when he flew aboard the Vostok spacecraft in April 1961. He orbited the earth once on this historic flight. The flight lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes. Gagarin was killed in a mysterious plane accident in 1968. A crater on the far side of the moon was later named after him |

The Donstoy Monastery (above) is a major monastery in Moscow,
founded in 1591 in commemoration of Moscow's deliverance from an
imminent threat of Khan Kazy-Girey's invasion. Commanding a highway to
the Crimea, the monastery was intended to defend southern approaches
to the Moscow Kremlin.
